It looks like Red Fox numbers are up
« on: September 26, 2006, 03:47:48 AM »
I have 2 lines I set due east and northeast of me.Both lines have pockets of fox.It looks like the fox numbers are up in those areas.Drove over that way on the way home from work this morning.A couple of field road intersections had fresh fox sign, fox tracks and scat.Saw 18 rooster pheasants, some just staring to color up,in a 16 mile drive.I'm really getting antsy to go trapping.

Well thats two things we have few of anymore.Fox and pheasants. But the human population is sure booming.
Coyotes and Turkeys, have taken the place of the fox and pheasants.

Tom we had a phenominal pheasant hatch this year.I usually have bird hunters coming for the pheasant opener but this year I told them not to come.I'm going to take my Dad with me every chance I get.A friend of mine has a ranch we shot 93 roosters off in 2 days last fall. There seems to be good Hungarian Partridge numbers also.Saturday duck/goose season opens,I've got a young guy from town who wants me to take him duck hunting.I have a place that is loaded with Teal,Mallards and Widgeon.Thursday is a scouting day for ducks, beaver, mink, coon and muskrats. My Blacl Lab has camped out by the front door.I shot clay pigeons in the pasture and she drove my wife nuts in the house with me shooting.I'll call your trapping supply number here with an order in a day or 2.

Like Bogmaster said...here in Illinois redfox and pheasants are few. I have been seeing more wild birds lately but too many redtailed hawks around here and more developement than you could shake a stick at to see a full recovery.
Redfox have become a taxidermy item .

I think a real go getter might have a good chance at taking a hundred red fox here.
