Best barrels

Who makes the best barrel " accurate" that can be bought for a hunting rife ?

That's akin to asking whats the best car? Krieger and Lilja are really good, I've had excellant luck with Shilen and have used Douglas and cheaper brands with good results.  I do believe though that the installation has as much to do with accuracy as does the brand of barrel..

Let see, Obermeyer,Rock,Broughton,Chanlyn,Hart,Shilen,Lawton,Kreiger,Lilja,Spencer,
Kostyshyn,Schneider,Kreiger,K&P,Bartlein,Benchmark are all pretty good barrels.  Gunsmith doesn't base chambering cost on barrel cost so I always try and get a good barrel to start with.  I've got one rifle chambered with a Douglas and it's an OK barrel and  I'm not much into Pac-Nor barrels.
I agree with gunnut69 about gunsmiths.  My latest projects I used a Kreiger,Kostyshyn,Chanlyn and Hart in hunting rifles and all are good shooter.  Well good luck

dang roper  think ya might of left a couple out.he he he.those guys are right.all top self stuff.and as said the installation is most importent.we had a bunch of shilen barrels (rim fire .22 )that were said to be shot out as they would not group no more.club guns.paul installed new barrles for them and I bought a 10/22 at a pawn shop we put an 11 degree crown and cleaned one of the barrels and installed it on the 10/22 and at 50 yards it put 15 federal match bullets in pert near one hole.

I have used the Montana Rifleman with excellent results.  They will sell you a barrel or re-barrel an action for you.  They specify a 'break-in' procedure and following that the accuracy from the rifle I had rebarrelled is fabulous.  HTH.  Mikey.

Geez, I wonder how many rounds it would take to shoot out a .22 rimfire?

I believe he was implying that they were NOT worn out. In fact I sometimes wonder if a modern barrel in 22 rimfire can be worn out.. I've seen winchester M67's that were shot sooooooooo much the action was worn but the barrel was fine.. I've a 69A that has had 10's of thousands(wish I'd of kept better records) and it still shoots better than I can hold it..  Most 22's are detroyed by rust or cleaned to death.

Yes Gunnut, I caught that.  I was just wondering at how long that would take.  I wish I could shoot enough to someday wear one of mine out...
