Bow hunters, The scent thing and Trappers
« on: September 26, 2006, 07:52:43 AM »
I was out sunday running over my line getting permissions squared a way and taking and overall look. I ran into a fella along the road by a property I trap that was going in to bow hunt. I thought I'd pick his brain as to what he'd seen for critters and stop to gab.
Anyway when I told this guy I trapped the farm he got concerned about my leaving scent around. Didn't seem to matter that I have trapped the farm for several years and he has also hunted there for a few years. I've known someone has hunted there all this time, he never knew I was around.
This is not the first time I've seen a bow hunter concerned about my trapping messing up their bow hunting.
I've actually had several farmers I've ask to trap on their property, turn me down because they have bow hunters on their land. Seems they feel there is some big issue scarring their deer away with human scent?? Maybe that would be true in big woods but I can't see it so much in farm country.
Personally I've had deer that watch me check traps in the same area several days in a row. I've never felt that deer vacated and area because I was trapping there.
Anyone else ever run into this?

Around here I've had no problems with bowhunters.I'm inclined to believe their more concerned with the increased human activity spooking deer than scent. The real big whitetail bucks around here seem to go nocturnal when  human activity increases in their home territory.
I love the smell of coyote gland lure early in the morning. It smells like victory!!

Yeppers, i agree with Yotero, as ive found out over the years.  The Big Boys definately go nocturnal   as soon as human activity picks up.
