Value of 6.5mm JDJ barrrel and dies
« on: September 27, 2006, 02:03:07 PM »
I will probably sell my 6.5mm jdj barrel and dies. It is a 6.5mm tcu that was converted by SSK. It is a blue barrel and is 14". What do you think the fair market value is? The barrel and scope are probably about 20+ years old. However I bet I have less than 300 rounds through the barrel.

tks

Dennis

I bought a SSK barrel 6.5 JDJ with the Burris 2x7 Scope, RCBS dies, 100 virgin 225 Win brass and another 50 fireformed cases for $200.00. I feel I got a great deal!
Accuracy with the 120 gr Nosler BT is excellent.

JD338 got a great deal for his set up.  I would say that's a good ball park since rechambers don't bring in the same as custom barrels.
The only thing you should feel when shooting insurgents is recoil.

Send you a PM. If you would, shoot me an e-mail about the 6.5 JDJ barrel.

not ported.  The scope is a fixed 4 power old redfield.  I looked at Leupold and others but the Redfield had a bigger eyebox and was better optically IMHO.
I haven't decided if I want to keep the scope or not as I may get a 30-30 barrel.

From what I have seen, stock blue 14" bull barrels sell for about $140 used, so the ssk 6.5 jdj with scope and dies with brass for $200 is a screamin deal!!!

While I don't know much about values, I do know that the 6.5mm JDJ is an awesome cartridge.  I guess I wonder what would prompt anyone who has one to sell it.  Other than I'm on my 3rd set of firearms due to a couple of financial casualties about 20 years apart.  Anyway good luck with your sale.

I have an" acquaintance" that has had about 85 rifles in the 20 years I've known him.! He swaps guns just about every season, deer varmint ,goose ,etc.!All I want to know about this barrel is if it's in good or better condition.

Webrehm:

I bought the SSK custom barrel (not re-chamber) for about $325. RCBS dies were $100. That was 5 years ago. I assume you'll also want to sell your brass, which is valuable because  6.5JDJ brass can be loaded many times and because having it already fireformed has value. It is unclear whether you will sell the scope, mount, and rings as part of the package. If you're selling brass, charge more than what a person would pay for new .225 Winchester brass.

Charge a premium price for it: $200 for the barrel and $50 for the dies. See Ed's Contenders web page to see what other barrels are going for. Don't price it consistent with 7-30 Waters, get better money than that.

Safety first
