Getting rid of the J Lock
« on: September 27, 2006, 02:55:24 PM »
Has anyone found a way to get rid of the J lock on the 7600?  I suppose you could buy a new trigger assembly.  I heard that they got rid of the J lock.  Is this the only option?

Thanks,

Steve

What's a J lock and what does it do? If it's the safety that locks the bolt like on older M700 bolt actions, the 760/7600 rifles don't have it.

Dave in WV,
My Rem 7600 in .308 HAS a J lock.  The problem is that they can be problematic.  It's known that they can lock up without a key and then you find when you're out hunting that the gun can't be fired.  The J lock was a bad idea and has since gone away I believe.

Anyone else know how to get rid of it?

I understand what you mean by the "J" lock now, it's the safety button that can be locked.  I figure a gunsmith can alter the safety button so it can't lock.

A new safety button costs about $3 and takes about 10 min to change.  If the J lock is in the safety button that should solve your problem.
