how to remove mauser barrel

i have a k98 that is about halfway through my project, and looking nice. the only problem i have arrived at is that the barrel just will NOT come off. i tightened the vise on the recoil lug, after spraying penetrating oil where it needs to go, put the pipe wrench to it and nothing. not a budge. i waited a few days, still nothing.

what the heck!? is there a trick to this?

Put it in a lathe and make a relief cut a couple of thou in front of the action, cut down deeper than the action is thick it will relieve the grip the barrel has on the action face.  Guess you could do it with a hack saw if you ere very careful.  Larry

I have also had great luck by freezing the barreled action. This shrinks the steel and loosens the grip...

Sometimes a blow on the wrench with a 5 lb hammer will get things started.

A real barrel vise would help...
In all these years I've only met one I couldn't unscrew. It twisted in half! I had to put the action in the lathe and bore out the remaining barrel stub.

Most respomd to the freezing and a blow with a lead hammer.. Had 1 enfield that I had to take the relief cut on to get loose.. Most just pop loose when the hammer is applied..
