Browning A5 Sweet 16- Serial #? Can't date?
« on: September 27, 2006, 07:07:57 PM »
Gentlemen
As promised my dad gave me his "Sweet 16". Now I'm trying to get the date of manufactor-already looked at the Browning site. Serial # is S68313 and there is no referance to this on the site. I'm thinking its a pre-war! Any help would be appreciated. I now know why he liked it so much, lighter then my A5 12 ga by about a pound! Shoots light load with out a hitch, only draw back it a full choke. I promised dad it would get allot of use- starting today I took probaly the last dove for this season. So next will be Chuckar, Pheasant and Quail. ;D Dad bought it second hand off a gentleman who after he sold it hounded my dad to sell it back to him-I guess whe realised what he had given up for just a few bucks! ::)

454, If it is indeed a "sweet 16" it will be so marked on the receiver. There were no pre-war sweet 16's produced. The pre-war guns were all standard weight. When I get home I'll see if I can date it for you by the S#. Byron

Thanks! That would be about right as dad said it was almost new when he got it! Yes it does have "Sweet sixteen" on the reciever.
