Longest shot with a 25 cal

Ok no arguments on weather its powerful enough. what is the longest kill you have made with a 25 cal, how big was it and did you have to chase it?

I shot a coyote with a 257 weatherby at a lasered 528 yards in a plowed field one winter. The load was a healthy dose of RL-22 under an 85 grain Nosler BT . I  hit him with the second shot. The scope settled before the first bullet struck the dirt so I could see where it hit. I made adjustments and pegged him. He wobbled in a big circle but did not leave my sight.

Same gun same load. 118 lb. doe through the ribs at 308 yards on wheatfield. Never took a step.

8)last winter i took one coyote at 643 yards with a 100 grain Serria from my 25-06. I have take a couple over 500 with it. BUT I missed a whole lot more than I have hit :DI have a Burris with the balistic plex. This helps some. I believe with the .257 Wea. I took one at 559 yards. No longer have the .257. >:(

Between myself & my brother & a friend, we have taken a bunch (whole bunch) of White Tail, Mule Deer & Antelope from 300-375 yards. I took one Antelope last fall at a little over 400 yards. I have no qualms about shooting a little further under the right conditions with my present 25-06AI load & rifle I use. None of these had to be chased, & I would rather not do that. However, I have had to chase a couple of Deer that I shot at close range with other rounds, due to hitting a limb & poor placement, not because of the round.

Oh yea, one groundhog at a little over 700 & a lot of Varmits closer.

I hope this doesn't turn into a silly ethics lecture & it shouldn't, the question was asked & I answered.

479 lasered yards plus another 4-5 feet from the laser target to my shooting position.  Call it 480 even.  .257 Roberts, 75g V-MAX at 3650fps and one unlucky coyote.

Right at 500 yds (laser range finder) with an 87 gr Speer out of a Savage 99 250-3000.  Of course I was in a barn shooting out of a window off a bench.  Whitetail went maybe 20 yds and fell

I shoot the 257 WBY MAG and was wondering witch bullet you use for long range shooting.

I belong to a 600 yd range and was thinking the 100 or the 87 might make it accurately

jro45, I have gone to the 125Gr. Wildcat. It is a ULD with hunting bullet qualities for Mule Deer & down. It flies virtually identical to
a 200MK in the 30cal. if both are fired at the same velocity. In the 25-06AI Sendero I get 3,250FPS with RL25 & a 26" barrel 257
you should get 3,300 & maybe a little more. It is a fine bullet!

Couple days ago I put down a doe at 150 yards with a 100 gr Sierra GameKing from a .25-06 (Missouri's urban season is going on this weekend in select counties).  Dropped her right where she stood.   No tracking needed.  Of course, I hit a couple inches above where I was aiming and shot her in the spine.  Bullet went in one side and out the other.

I'm afraid that's my longest shot with .257 caliber.  Not much to brag about regarding long range, but I take 'em where I can get 'em.  Last year I passed on a buck about 650 yards out.  Wouldn't have had a chance at that range.  Not sure I'd have made the shot at 1/2 that distance.

Last October, I was looking over this buck with my 10X Bushnell binoculars from a hilltop about 250 yards away.  Suddenly the buck lurched sideways and toppled over.  Then I heard the distant CRACK of Rick's 25-06.

We estimated his shot at 350 to 375 yards.  A difficult task due to the rough country of eroded canyons and rolling hills. Rick and I have hunted 'lopes together for many years.  His 25-06 has reached way out there to topple 'em where they stand.  Why anyone would tote a heavy kicking magnum for long shorts on muleys and 'lopes is beyond my comprehension.

Well, I'm with The Sodbuster.
I nailed a small male roo at 150yds with my 303/25 ShtLE while out culling (with NPWS tags) one night.
Shot through the spine using a Sierra GameKing 90gn HPBT.
He fell where he stood.
Not as flashy as the 300yd shots mentioned but then he was a small target and he only stopped for a second.

475 yards on a whitetail doe, shooting 25-06 117-grain Sierra Game Kings.  Punched through the lungs, went 20 yards, laid down and is still sleeping today.
