Cleaning .25ACP cases ?
« on: September 28, 2006, 04:47:26 PM »
??? After two session at the bench with my TC Encore and the .25ACP conversion, I was very pleased with the results.
What can be used to clean the crud off of the brass cases before re-priming, not being a reloader, I'm at a loss. I found out the hard way not to wait long as the brass will corrode and discolor.

I put mine in Windex with vinegar while at the range.  When I get home I wash them out with hot water and use a q-tip to dry the inside of the case out and then I tumble them to polish them back up. But the tumbler is not needed.

I used to worry about it, I don't anymore.  I do tumble them in corncob media, but frankly if I didn't have the tumbler already I don't think I'd bother cleaning them.  Discoloration does not affect function, and they're too cheap for me to worry much if they last a few reloadings less.

With nothing more than a tumbling every 2-3 uses, I'm still on the same batch of cases I started with 3 seasons ago.

Thanks for the tip w/ the windex! I have been using a .17cal bore brush and hand scrubbing after dropping the brass in a dixie cup filled with either No. 13 bore cleaner or CVA bore foam. I usually let them sit for about an hour while I clean my Black Diamond, then hand scrub each brass casing. Once cleaned of all crud and dried with a q-tip, I load the new primer. P.I.T.A, but worth the hastle.
