Man that's sweet. I have been wanting to go to Africa for some time now but finances don't want to cooperate. I think that's what I would like to go for, kudu and warthog. Are you getting them mounted? I know you can't bring it back with you but did you get to eat anything while you were there? Apparently you got to try kudu.

My trip was made possible in a large part by my wife's accumulation of air miles and willingness to donate them for the cause.

I do plan to have shoulder mounts done on the Kudu, Warthog, and Gemsbok. The Impala will be a European mount. The taxidermy work and shipping is a significant part of the cost, but I got to have them.

I ate Kudu, Impala, and Wildebeest (another hunter's). Unfortunately I got the Gemsbok at the very last rays of light on the very last day of my hunt, so I wasn't able to try it. The Impala and Wildebeest were good, but not as good as the Kudu.

In the last 30 years, I've shot and eaten over 100 Sitka Black Tailed deer.  I've never had a bad one.  Most caribou I've eaten has been very good.  Dall Sheep is absolutely the best eating ever had for wild game.  Mt. Goat is about 50-50.  When it is good, it is very good.  When not so, it is so so.   Moose can be great or terrible.   Depends on how it was handled, cared for and time of year shot.  Black bear can be from good to inedible depending on the time of year, feed and again care in handling the meat.  Most bison has been good.  Both Puma that I've eaten has been dynamite.  Elk is very good every time I've eaten it, but that is not as much as I'd like.  I've shot and eaten White Tail that has been good to awful.  I think some of that was due weather conditions during the season.  It was too hot.  Mule deer has been so so for me.  I don't include some of the small game that is excellent fodder.  Rattlesnake is overated and doesn't taste like chicken.  I'm anticipating eats from African game sometime in the next 2 years, when I go there on safari.
Greg lost his battle with cancer last week on April 2nd 2009. RIP Greg. We miss you.
