Nothing wrong with scratching that "itch" when a new caliber come out that you "just gotta have."
I believe the long standing reason for 30-30 success is in part Gun Writers, older hunter recollections, a whole lot of "first gun" memories, basic rustic charm, unparallelled reliability, lack of significant recoil, correct "fit" of a carbine to the younger hunter, proven performance on some of the biggest game, and its achievable low price.
