Winchester Grand European(sp) Double rifles
« on: September 30, 2006, 04:46:39 AM »
Correct me if I'm wrong about any of this but, didn't Winchester market some over and under double rifles on the 101 shotgun frames, years back? I thought I read that they were intended for Europe and a few made it to the USA? Calibers were in the typical deer calibers and maybe others, ie. 30.06, .270, and a few in Euro mm calibers? Can anyone straighten me out on these or set me right?
I always thought one of these would be just about right for the whitetail woods at close ranges.
Pictures sure would be nice?

I have seen them in .270/.270 and 30-06/30-06.  Several years ago I think I saw a combo, but might have been dreaming.

I think I remember a shotgun/rifle combo, also?

As for the Grand Europeans...

I have a friend who owned a shop through the 80's and 90's and at one point picked up a number of them, both combos and DRs.
As I remember they were sold as matching pairs.
One I know of personally was in 12 x 7x57 with eaw mounts.  It had a matching partner in the same rifle calibers.  Little bit of gold and some decent engraving with a boar, etc (that was the combo).
Nicely done in general.

A 12/222R combo.

Another combo.

Last year the local gun shop had a double o/u rifle 7x57R. I've also seen them in 7x65R, .30-06 and 9,3x74R.

Whenever anyone is selling a gun for more than Cabellas that is extremely pricey.   :o
