First 25 straight
« on: September 30, 2006, 05:34:44 AM »
Got my first 25 straight last weekend. Got it with the 12 ga. Ended up shooting a 91. Also shot the 20 ga fairly well and my first doubles event. I am hooked!

Graybeard, Got it shooting skeet. Second registered shoot. I'm going to shoot in another tourney in a couple of weeks. Even though it was a brand new cap I was more than happy to throw it so it could be shot.

Congrats, 91 is a good score for a first registered tournament. It's been way too many years (some time in the mid 70s) for me to recall exactly but my first was either a 92 or a 94, most likely the lower of the two. I'd already shot several 25 straights and a few 50s prior to that in practice. The first is always a nice event and that first 100 even nicer.

These days even 25 straights are hard enough to come by for me. What once seemed easy has gotten more difficult after my long lay off.

What equipment are you using? I began with Remington 870 Wingmasters, moved to Rem 1100s, then Remington 3200 with tubes and then to all sorts of things from there. Now I shoot Browning O/Us. I sure wish I'd kept that Belgian made three barrel set (20, 28 and .410) I was using when I stopped shooting competition but a dealer wanted it more than me and offered me a profit on it so I let him have it.

Currently using a Beretta Silver Pidgeon III Sporting with 30" bbls. A friend of mine is letting me use his Beretta EELL to shoot the sub gauges since I do not have my tubes yet. I plan on shooting the 20 28 and 410 at the next shoot. I had a little trouble with the Beretta not quite fitting me properly and corrected it for the most part. Once the season id finished I plan on sending the stock off for an adjustable comb and butt. I also had to go with a set of Briley choke tubes because the factory chokes were not patterning very well. It's been a great experience so far and I'm looking foreward to shooting as many tourney's as possible next year.
