I finaly got some of the 400 grain lee bullets loaded and shot today, My starting load of 19.3 gr of h110 ( thats what my lee disc measure says to start with) I did not shoot for accuracy, just to make sure everything worked right, but I did recover some of the bullets and was amazed by the penetration, an average of 20 inches in mostly clay bank. and little expansion. these are straight ww. the hornady factory load does about 6 inches in the same clay bank and has picture perfect expansion. I have two problems to work out though, first the h110 does not work well in the lee auto disc measure, it is so fine that it gets where it should not and gums it up. is h4227 a larger powder and will it work well in my measure? second the cylinder throats on my taurus are .475 and my mold throws .477 lead and I have to seat the bullet deeper than I feel I should to get them to chamber ( slightly foward of the front crimp grove ) the nose is catching on the sharp edge in the throat, I think I if I could get them sized to .476 I could crimp where I want to and be able to chamber them. so who makes a sizer in .476? Keep in mind these are the first bullets I have cast and the first attempt at handloading so any comments would be helpful!!!
