1ST TIMER!
« on: October 01, 2006, 07:56:08 AM »
Well, I finally drew a bear tag this year.  Just got back from three days in the High Sierra.  We have been hearing that the bears are now more numerous than dear and I believe it.  Yesterday I saw the biggest scat pile I've ever seen in my life.  This thing was literally six inches high and 3" diameter.  Must have been a 300+ lber.  Spent the mornings on stand and still hunted the evenings.  Lots of sign, but did'nt see anything this trip.  Next trip is two weeks away, and plan to hunt over Thanksgiving long weekend.

Can you tell just where in the high Sierra you were hunting?  I've backpacked a bit in Kings Canyon & Sequoia.

There is a bear that lives on my inlaws 20 acres up above Placerville, CA (Highway 50 Just west of Icehouse Reservoir) and lots of bear scat in that whole recreation area.  I don't have a tag and don't really want to shoot a bear so he/she is probably ok unless the bear screws up my deer hunting stand next year by sleeping under it.

Hopefully Tomzuki will update us how it went and where he was hunting.
