Glenfield 30a

I just bought my first lever gun,  Glenfield 30a made in 1976. Does anyone know the twist rate on this gun? Any other information on the gun would be appreciated too. Also, is the search not working or do I not know how to use it. Every time I try to search it opens a new window with the forum home page. Thanks.

No clue on the twist rate, I personally never worry about such things as it has long since proven adequate for all factory ammo and reloads using bullets of normal weight.

On the search the one using the blue button is disabled for now. The Google search seems to work fairly well but it needs more time to complete the spidering of the site so all the older post have been spidered as well.

I've tried using the google search, and half the links can't be found and the other half take me back to the forum home page. I can't figure out what to do.

I'll bet there are some Marlin afficianados on this site who know.  I was under the impression that all Marlin-made .30-30's were 1 in 10 while Winchester preferred 1 in 12.  Somebody help us out here?  As Graybeard implied, both twists rates work perfectly well with the 150/170 gr. offerings.

I've got a Glenfield Marlin made the same year as yours. It is a plain jane 336 with a Birch stock instead of Walnut ... that's the only difference. I'm almost positive the twist rate is 1-10. My NEF 30-30 is 1-10. That's the twist Marlin uses. I've got a 336 made the 4th week of the new 336 production in 1948 with a model 36 barrel on it. I have no idea what twist it is but it shoots all ammo the same as my Marlin model 30. The difference in 1-10 and 1-12 does not matter in a 30-30.

What I can tell you is that my Glenfield Marlin and my early 1948 336 both love Federal Power Shok 170 grain ammo. And, if you want to try the new Levereloution ammo ... it loves that too for about $10 a box more.

I have a 30a and it is a shooter. Has dropped three deer in their tracks. Trigger is just right for a hunting rifle.
