6.5x55 Swede Midway barrel
« on: October 01, 2006, 04:49:35 PM »
I just ordered a 26" 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser barrel from Midway.  Are these standard Thompson Center barrels the Midway special orders?  They don't list much information about these on the website.  Has anyone else here bought one of these?  I'm curious about what to expect.

These are factory barrels manfactured by Thompson Center. It would be the same barrel that you would get if you bot an Encore with the 6.5 Swede barrel on it.

I bot a .223 T\C Contender barrel thru Midway last year and after about a month of working with different powder\bullet combinations I finally hit on one that after a three shot group, you can cover it with a dime.

I hope you have good luck with your barrel.

The barrel came in yesterday, a T/C 26" heavy contour.  I mounted a scope and will test it out tomorrow.  I also noticed the lands on the chamber end of the barrel have marks or chips in them, I am not too worried until I shoot it as all of them are marked the same.  Hopefully they are tooling marks from when the chamber was reamed.  My .243 barrel has no marks and the rifling starts clean and my .300 Win Mag barrel has some marks but not near as pronounced.  It is probably not anything to be alarmed with but just something noticeable.  I will report back with how it shoots.
