45-70 handloads
« on: October 03, 2006, 04:54:58 AM »
I am about to load for a T/C 23 inch 45-70 barrel. Shall I follow data for Springfield loads or is it safe to go higher ?
Thanks,
Ira

Some data is a little hotter but not by much. As you may be aware there are generally three levels of 45-70 handload data published: (1) Springfield (2) Marlin lever (3) Ruger #1. I have never seen any Contender data as hot as the latter two. I would recommend using loading tables specifically for the Contender.

Stick with the trapdoor loads.
