I'm not Quick , but it came from H&R themselves , Don't know if they still have any left . the only way is to call their CS and see .

The phone number is in the FAQs at the top of the CF forum ,

If your talking about 45/70 ammo , most of the Name brands are loaded to trapdoor and levergun levels , their are some semi-customs out there like Buffalo Bore i beleave the name is that are loaded to much higher levels and are made for the Ruger single shots .

Glenn, what Stimpylu32 said cept for the BB ammo. All the over the counter ammo that you'll find from Rem, Win and Fed are loaded to trapdoor levels, all the ammo from Buffalo Bore is loaded to level 2 or leverguns which is safe in a Handi also as stated on their web site. Garrett has levergun ammo and ammo that is only safe in Ruger and bolt action .45-70s. H&R will tell you that you can safely shoot levergun loads in your Handi or BC. You may choose to limit the loads to trapdoor once you feel the recoil of even mid level levergun loads, tho!! :o

It's about like a .30-06, here's a recoil table to give you an idea, both .45-70 loads in the table are trapdoor loads. The 450 Marlin loads is equivilent to a levergun 45-70 load.

i looked at that chart, then i got to thinking, so i went and checked out remingtons ammunition ballasitics charts, it look like the 35 whelen has a flatter tradjectory, higher velocity at 100 yards and more enegry at 100 yards... so wouldnt that mean it would be a "better" deer hunting round ? and it kicks too... better, no ?

The 35 Whelen is a 250-300yd elk gun, but again, you're stuck with just the Rem factory loads which aren't common. Recoil is just a tad more than the '06 since you're shooting heavier bullets, but still less than the .45-70 and is flatter shooting. I think the 7-08 would be a better choice, then get either a .45-70 or 35 Whelen rifle or barrel later. ;)

It is not the Handi Rifles that come in 3 power levels, but the loading data in manuals that is usually refered to this way, or one could say types of rifles. The Hornady manual list their 45-70 loads in 3 levels: 1. Trapdoor  2.Marlin (1895)  3. Ruger #1 .

The Handi would be in the Marlin group.

I ordered a full length Manlicher forend for my 45/70 about a month ago.  I took about 3 weeks to recieve it but they said they had plenty left.  I wouldn't wait to long to order one though.  If you give them a call they were more than happy to help me out, even gave me the tracking number when I was wondering where it was.
